Grains and Markets:
New forecasts for the 2023 soya and maize harvests were issued today. These are early days yet, with both grains till being sown. But the prevailing drought scenario has brought the volume expectation down to 35.5 million for soya and 37.8 million for maize. This is an average 25 per cent reduction from the previous forecasts. Wheat, which is finishing harvest is now expected to be 13 million tons, down from 23 million harvested during 2022.
Some rumors around talk of crushers in Argentina buying Brazilian soya beans for crushing due to idle capacity.
TPR Rosario:
TPR (Rosario open berth terminal) remains idle. A small group of the striking stevedores stand by their picket lines and block access to the terminal.
This despite an agreement between management and the union which they do not acknowledge. Negotiations continue.
Dredging of the River Plate and River Parana:
Maintenance dredging of the Parana and the River Plate is till being performed by the Government state entity (ASP) and for the forthcoming future everything indicates this will remain unchanged.
A report issued by the AGP for the 2022 calendar year performance congratulates themselves on keeping the rivers dredged and buoyed and there is no indication that a new tender will be issued during 2023 for a medium or longer term. They will maintain the rivers in their present condition (subcontracting work to Jan de Nul) and collecting tolls. But no improvements are expected.
