Nationwide Work Stoppage “Stopped”:

A work stoppage was called by the umbrella organization that includes most of the unions in the maritime sector, known as FeMPINRA.
Because of this, starting tomorrow November 04th 00:00 hours local time there were to be no bunker barges, tugboats, pilot boats, river pusher tugs, grain surveyors and mooring gangs.
However, the Government called for a “Mandatory Truce” (15 days) late tonight and it is presumed that activities will continue normally.

Grains and Markets:

Extreme cold weather and drought continue affecting the Argentine wheat harvest forecast. The Rosario Exchange has now reduced the 2022-2023 forecast to 14,000,000 tons. That is down from 20,500,000 tons that had been expected in their first forecast.

Lastly there is talk of Tecpetrol (Techint’s upstream oil company) who also talk of building an export terminal for crude oil and, or gas.

Large Container Carriers in the Plate:

The mv ONE AMAZON and the mv RIO DE JANEIRO EXPRESS are calling in the region. These vessels are some of the largest in their class to have called at Montevideo and Buenos Aires.
Details as per below:

Mv ONE AMAZON, 12.000 teus, LOA 330 meters, 2022 built Berthed at Buenos Aires November 1st, 2022

Mv RIO DE JANEIRO EXPRESS, 12,000 teus, LOA 335 meters, 2022 built Due to berth at Buenos Aires November 4th, 2022

Martin Garcia dredging:

The dredging and buoying of the Martin Garcia Canal are managed by CARP (River Plate Administrative Commission, joint Argentine and Uruguayan). The actual work is performed, under contract, by Boskalis until January 2023. The tendering and awarding of this are done for five-year periods. In what is considered and un-expected move an offer was made by Jan de Nul for a two year period offering dredgers now working on the former “Hidrovia”, today VNT, River Parana and River Plate waterway. This is a very political move expected understood to be a try by the Belgians to dislodge the Boskalis from their long held hold on Martin Garcia.

Weather in to the week-end for bunker deliveries at Zona Comun:

Brisk weather conditions are forecast for the coming week.
As always, the STS operation is up to the discretion of the Master’s of the vessels involved.

Lastly there is talk of Tecpetrol (Techint’s upstream oil company) who also talk of building an export terminal for crude oil and, or gas.

Will keep you posted.

Best regards,

Antares Servicios Maritimos S.A.
