New Government in Argentina:

Last night the Government issued an Emergency Decree (Executive Order) that commenced a sweeping deregulation of the economy.

A long list of limiting laws have been annulled with the purpose of opening the local economy to investment.

Amongst these the implementation of an “open skies” policy that will allow foreign airlines to offer services in the local market.

All public (State owned) companies are open to be sold off.

Also restrictions have been placed on the right to strike for those services considered essential. Amongst them is transport associated to foreign trade.

As per the new regulation, services like tugboats and boat services must provide minimum 75 per cent capacity when a strike is launched.

This also applies to banking and all aspects of education.

Labor laws are modified and special industrial promotion laws for certain provinces are annulled.

The new President, Javier Milei, closed the announcement saying “And this is just the beginning”.
