Grains and Markets:

The “bonus” exchange rate period has been announced this evening and will start as from Monday July 24th a period of 30 days. This is the first time such a scheme has been announced for maize. The previous three were for soya beans. An increase in maize sales by exporters is to be expected.

Numbers for the soyabean harvest, now collected still vary between WASDE which puts it at 25,000,000 tons and the USDA which sees it at 21,250,000 tons.

Still meagre, forecasts for the next crop, starting harvest April 2024 have started at 50,500,000 tons.

Vietnam remains asking for a Panamax of soya meal in October and for a Panamax of maize on similar dates. Tunisia is in the market for a Supramax of soya beans in October.

Japan is wanting a Panamax of maize in November.

Necochea Fertilizers import berth:

The Necochea dedicated berth for fertilizer imports is now operating again.

The mv MEDI HIROSHIMA berthed late last week and is now discharging 11,450 tons of Map and Dap from China.

This pier has storage facilities for storage of dry fertilizers. Soon a facility for storage of liquid fertilizers will be activated.

The pier itself, known commercially as “PierDoce” consists of four dolphins, hoppers are mounted on each dolphin and the discharge then goes ashore into storage using conveyor belts.

Maximum LOA is 230 meters, 38 meters maximum beam and pilots recommend an arrival draft of 12.50 meters on a high tide.

Usual discharge rate is 500/600 tons per hour. Geared vessels are required since there is no shore gear.

As always, the STS operation is up to the discretion of the Master’s of the vessels involved.
