Grounding at Buenos Aires Access Canal

Grains and Markets:

The third, and last, “bonus” exchange rate window for soya bean exports finished on May 31st. 7,400,000 tons of beans were sold under this scheme.

There are rumors that a similar scheme may be implemented for maize later.

Grounding mv MONTEVIDEO I at Km 11.5 of the Buenos Aires Access Canal:

The mv “MONTEVIDEO I” loaded inbound with 22,400 tons of fertilizers and proceeding to San Nicolas from Montevideo (Uruguay) grounded at Km 11.5 of the Buenos Aires Access Canal on June 02nd at 16:55 hours local time.

The grounding was reported to be caused by a malfunction on the vessel.

She was assisted by two tugs, the BERNARDO R and QUERANDI and freed from said grounding at 20:30 hours same day. In the meantime, navigation in the area was suspended by CoastGuard Traffic Control.

Given the position of the grounding all access to the port of Buenos Aires and to the Emilio Mitre Canal was halted during the period.

The vessel was declared on a draft of 10.30 meters and is now anchored at Ramallo awaiting improved draft to continue navigation to San Nicolas.



Vaca Muerta Gas Pipeline:

The Government is still seeking financing for the 2nd stage of the pipeline from Vaca Muerta that will connect with the main network supplying the domestic netwoork.

The first stage is expected to be inaugurated June 20th. It runs for 573 km from North Western Patagonia to the central Pampas (Saliquelo).

The second stage is 562 km in length and is yet to be tendered due to delays in the financing. The plate and “raw” pipes were principally imported from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and discharged at Dock Sud.

As always, the STS operation is up to the discretion of the Master’s of the vessels involved.
