National Holidays: Today, May 25th and tomorrow Friday May 26th.


The mv ORION OCEAN grounded at Km 337 of the River Parana (between Ramallo and San Nicolas), today, May 25th at 03:45 hours local time.

Vessel is proceeding from San Lorenzo to Callao, Peru loaded with approximately 27,700 tons of maize on 10.5 meters draft.

CoastGuard Traffic Control has interrupted navigation in the area until further notice.

At the time of writing she is being assisted by the tugboat DUMAR and later it will be joined by the in the morningto free from the grounding.

Causes of the grounding have not yet been reported.

According to the latest surveys in the area there is sufficient draft for the vessel’s transit on the reported draft.


Grains and Markets:

Rumors abound of new special “bonus” scheme for maize exports to be implemented by the Government so they may reap additional foreign currency (USD).

The maize harvest forecast issued by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange is still maintained at 36,000,000 tons for 2022/2023.

Iran is reported to have purchased 260,000 tons of soya meal from ECSA on June and July dates. Tunisia remains in the market for a Supramax of meal on September dates.

Chile is in the market for a Supramax of maize August and Taiwan (MFG) is looking for 135,000 tons of maize on July dates.
