Grounding at River Parana



National Holidays: June 17th, 19th and 20th.


As reported previously the mv ORION OCEAN grounded at Km 337 of the River Parana (between Ramallo and San Nicolas) on May 25th at 03:45 hours, local time.

Vessel was proceeding from San Lorenzo to Callao, Peru on loaded condition with 27,700 tons of maize on a draft of 10.5 meters.

CoastGuard interrupted navigation in the area as the canal was partially obstructed.

In order to assist freeing from the grounding she was assisted by three tugs, DUMAR, COOPOR ESTIBADOR I and COOPOR ESTIBADOR II.

The ORION OCEAN was reported afloat on May 26th at 16:20 hours and the CoastGuard permitted navigation as from 22:05 hours same day after soundings in the area were performed.


After the soundings the maximum sailing draft through the area was determined to be 10.45 meters and is then adjusted daily basis the river level of the day.

At this moment a dredger, the CAPITAN NUÑEZ 256-C, has been sent to the area to repair the damage caused to the navigation canal.


Grains and Markets:

Thailand is in the market for a Supramax of soya meal on September dates and Costa Rica is in the market for a Handymax of soya meal also on September dates.

Saudi Arabia remains is in the market for one or two Panamaxes of maize on August dates and Egypt also for a Panamax on same Augst dates.
