May 31st – River Parana draft

May 31st 2020

River Parana draft

In view of the ongoing developing situation and different communications and instructions being issued by Sanitary Authorities of the Argentine Government we have chosen to send a consolidated daily report at the closing of working hours with an update of the day’s news.

National Holiday: Monday, June 15th, Güemes Day.

Covid-19 National Quarantine: The National Quarantine has been extended until June 07th.
At the main ports the sanitary measures remain unchanged and work is well coordinated. The Ship’s Agency work is allowed to continue with few restrictions and sanitary procedures.

Export licenses: On Friday May 29th, licenses were issued for 360,000 metric tons of maize, 110,000 metric tons of soyameal and 9,400 metric tons of wheat.

Vicentin: The interest that Glencore had been showing in Vicentin seems to be diminishing. According to local sources the people that are now looking at “rescuing” Vicentin are a local company called Manzano. They manufacture silos and Vicentin are also reportedly in debt to them from before the default.

Grain exports 1stQ 2020:
Maize and wheat exports have increased as a proportion in the over all exports for the 1st Quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019. This trend is expected to continue during 2020 as the production of both grains is a larger proportion of the harvest.

River Parana draft: The forecast for the coming month of June does not show encouraging signs for the draft on the River Parana. Rainfall in South Brazil is not expected to happen and therefore the amount of water in the river will not increase. There may be occasional improvements mainly caused by high tides in the River Plate brought upon by SE winds and storms. These high tides did not usually affect the River as far up as San Lorenzo and Rosario but as there is so little water in the River it is now felt along the whole course of area where ocean going vessels navigate.

Necochea: The port has been closed today, May 31st at 0140 hours due to wind blowing at 70/80 km/h and strong swell.

Bahia Blanca: Pilotage service at Buoy 11, Bahia Blanca Roads has been re-opened today May 31st since 1330 hours.

Will keep you posted.

Best regards,
Antares Servicios Maritimos S.A.
