Argentina, elections 2023

National Holidays: Thursday May 25th and Friday May 26th.

Argentina, elections 2023:

Primary elections will be held on August 13th for those parties that opt to chose candidates by this system.

On Sunday October 22nd, 2023 General elections will be held in Argentina.

The election will be for President, Vice-President, Senators and Deputies at National level.

At Provincial level the dates may differ as it is the Governor’s prerogative when to call local elections and many provinces wish to call on a different date and so not be affected by National election.

Municipal authorities are elected at the same date as Provincial authorities.

The outlook today is that the ruling parties at provincial level will be reelected.

On a National level the picture is uncertain. One party, who knows they will lose cannot find a sacrificial candidate willing to face martyrdom. Another party, who thinks they may win, has too many candidates. And lastly there is a loner who may harness a large quantity of votes because he has understood the electorate’s frustration with those mentioned before.

The next Government will have to make harsh decisions to change a disastrous economy with, at least, 140 per cent inflation projection, as well as significant administrative reform.

Grains and Markets:

Algeria is in the market for a Panamax of soya bean meal on June-July dates. Morocco is looking for a Supramax of soya meal on July dates and same quantity for Vietnam on August dates.

Egypt still open for a Panamax of soya beans in August.

China is reported to have re-appeared buying seven Panamaxes of soya beans at the close of the week.

Algeria is tendering for three Handymaxes of maize, one each May, June and July/August.

Yields for maize are below expectations as the harvest progresses. The initial harvest forecast was for 36,000,000 tons and has not yet been revised downwards.

Sunflowerseed oil in to the EU:

The USDA expects European Sunoil imports to increase by 5 per cent up to 2,200,000 tons during the 2023/2024 period.

Although sunflowers seed production increases demand is growing faster. Until the commencement of hostilities in the Black Sea region Ukraine was the principal source for sunoil imports, but the reduced production is expected see imports from other sources, i.e. ECSA.
