Mv TAI KNIGHTHOOD – Necochea:
At approximately 23:00 hours yesterday 28th the mv TAI KNIGHTHOOD (84,434 tons DWT, 2021 built) sailed from Necochea, loaded with about 68,000 metric tons of agriproducts on 12.3 meters draft (SW). Upon crossing the breakwater outbound she touched ground and opened a gash in her hull, which, reportedly affects holds 3, 4 and 5. At the present time the vessel is anchored at Necochea Roads awaiting surveys and shows a list to port. The vessel was reported to Singapore, but the cargo is bound for China.
Grains and Markets:
The new “bonus” exchange rate being offered to farmers for soya until the end of the year is expected to generate sales to China between 1 and 1.5 million tons.
Morocco is still looking for a Handymax of soya meal March dates.
Colombia and Peru are also in the market for Handymaxes full of maize on February dates.
Altar Mining project in the North-Central Andes:
The Altar copper and gold mining project is getting underway. The owners of this location are the Canadians Aldebaran. Aldebaran is now 38 per cent Regulus, 42 per cent Route One and Sibanye-Stillwater 19.9 per cent. Total yield is estimated at 6.5 million tons of copper ore and 5.2 million ounces gold. The earliest readiness for production is late 2024. The planned outlet is San Lorenzo, at Upriver.
