New procedures

In view of the ongoing developing situation and different communications and instructions being issued by Sanitary Authorities of the Argentine Government we have chosen to send a consolidated daily report at the closing of working hours with an update of the day’s news.

National Holiday: Saturday, June 20th, Flag Day – Thursday, July 09th, Independence Day and Friday July 10th “Bridge Holiday”.

Covid-19 National Quarantine: The National Quarantine has now been extended until June 28th. The press are saying that it is to be extended to July 12th.
At the main ports the sanitary measures remain unchanged and attendance is well coordinated. The Ship’s Agency tasks are allowed to continue with few restrictions and strict sanitary procedures are applied. Upriver ports are working close to normal with strict sanitary enforcement.

As mentioned before Bahia Blanca and Necochea are very rigid imposing in nearly all cases a 14 day quarantine on arriving vessels. The 14 days are counted as from departure from the last port of call.

*** IMPORTANT *** Recalada/Zona Comun. New procedures for arriving vessels: As from Sunday June 14th, the CoastGuard medics will not be attending at Recalada. Until then the medics would board inbound vessels at anchorage Recalada prior boarding pilots. The change is that now medics are boarding vessels at Zona Comun, but only as from 0900 hours. It means that now the preliminary inspection has added cost. Each vessel must pay a launch service for the attending medics and additionally the pilots charge an anchoring fee. This will amount to additional cost as follows:
USD 1,200.00 launch service, Monday to Friday. Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays USD 1,680.00 plus USD ——– Pilot’s anchoring fee calculated as follows: USD 14.00 per Fiscal Unit of the vessel. FUs are calculated basis (LOA x Beam x Molded depth)/800.

Export licenses: Export licenses were issued today, June 18th, for 200,000 metric tons of soyameal, 61,000 metric tons of maize and 28,000 metric tons of malting barley.

Soya bean harvest 2020: The soya bean harvest in Argentina has concluded with a total yield of 49.5 million tons. This is 0.9 per cent up on 2019 harvest.

Maize harvest: The maize harvest has progressed today to 81.8 per cent of the early sowing and 52.6 per cent of the later sowing. The overall yield is expected to total 50 million tons.

Wheat 2020/2021: The sowing of the 2020/2021 has progressed 58.1 per cent on the expected 6.7 million hectares, This is an increase of 8.1 per cent over the previous year.

Vicentin: Various parties are trying to present alternative solutions to the Vicentin drama. The Provincial Government (Santa Fe) and Farmer’s Coops are working on plans for salvaging the company and the farmers that were left high and dry by Vicentin’s default. All this in order to find an alternative to the National Government’s intent to expropriate the company. In the meantime the opposition increases in the general public against what is perceived as a violation of public property.

River Parana draft: Further to our CIRCULAR this morning. Hidrovia have positioned a dredger, the HENRI PITOT, to Km 338 of the River Parana to clear the area where the mv KYDONIA grounded yesterday, Wednesday June 17th. The dredger has been working during the day. After preliminary work a survey has been carried out. The survey has detected additional shallow areas and the dredger will be carrying out more clearing. Later, during the night tonight, a further survey will take place to determine the effective transit draft and we will be reporting back with the result. In the meantime transit of vessels in the area is not permitted.

Necochea: The port closed today at 1530 hours due to swell and strong winds.
