River Parana Draft Forecast:

Tugboats Necochea and Bahia Blanca:

The Seamen’s Union that crews’ tugs belonging to ARTUG and SVITZER in Bahia Blanca and Necochea have declared a strike today as from 12:00 hrs today August 11th.
The strike will last for 24 hours. i.e., until August 12th 12:00 hrs
Other tugboat companies continue operating normally.

Grains and Markets:

The “corn” crop in the European Union is heavily affected by dry weather over the summer. The EU is expected to be more flexible on imports of “corn” (maize to us) as the autumn approaches. This is expected to be sourced mainly from ECSA and the US.
Wheat and barley sowing is now finished.
The wheat area sown for this harvest is 6.1 million hectares. This is a 9 per cent drop on the previous year (2021).
Barley is won over 1.3 million hectares. This is 100.000 hectares more than 2021.

Vicentin:

The company is still going through it’s Chapter 11 proceedings.
The terminal in San Lorenzo and the crushing plant close by are rented to a joint venture “coop” where ACA, Molinos Agro and Viterra keep the installation alive.
In the meantime, there are moves afoot to sell of the remains to a new company which may consist of the larger creditors plus a few “institutional” investors with good political connections.
How this ends is still highly speculative.

Soya bean imports to Upriver:

The mv OLYMPIA LOGGER was chartered to bring a cargo of about 28,000 tons of soya beans from Santarem to San Lorenzo. Due to the low water in the Parana the vessel had to be lightered at San Nicolas Roads.
The vessel is now anchored at San Nicolas waiting to complete discharge at San Lorenzo. She is then booked to carry soya meal and maize to Morocco.

This “development” is infrequent, but not unseen. Due to the drought and the low production of soyabeans the crushing plants along the River Parana are having to source beans from Brazil to keep production going.
Renova (Viterra) is the first charterer to undertake such a voyage this year.

Weather in to the week-end for bunker deliveries at Zona Comun:

STS BUNKER AT ZONA COMUN FOR NEXT DAYS:
Rough weather, north winds, with strong gusts are forecast over the coming days.
As always, the STS operation is up to the discretion of the Master’s of the vessels involved.

Will keep you posted.

Best regards,

Antares Servicios Maritimos S.A.
