Soya bean and maize harvest under way:
Soya bean and maize harvesting remains underway with favorable dry weather conditions.
The Buenos Aires Grains Exchange has maintained it’s forecast for the total amounts of the harvest.
Soya beans are now 77 per cent lifted and the total is estimated at 50,500,000 tons. Most of the soya beans are retained locally for crushing at the Upriver plants and it is the exported as meal, oil, or biodiesel. Smaller amounts of beans are sold for export, principally to China.
Maize is now 22 per cent lifted and the total yield is expected to be 46,500,000 tons. This is a 9,500,000 ton increase on last year’s harvest which was strongly affected by the drought. Nevertheless, this year’s harvest has been reduced from the original forecast caused by a plague of the leafhopper plague (chicharrita in Spanish).
