Montevideo dredging:

Uruguay’s National Port Administration (ANP) has signed an additional contract with CHEC Dredging Company Limited of China to assist with the dredging of Montevideo port to 14 meters draft. Today the maximum draft stands at 13 meters.

The initial dredging has been undertaken by the port administration using their own dredgers, but additional support has been considered necessary to clear the access canal and the inner harbor area.

With an improved draft Montevideo seeks to position itself as a deep-water hub port for the South Atlantic ports. Principally for the container trade.

The dredging work is expected to be finalized by end of 2025.
