Grain surveyor’s strike

National Holidays: Monday May 01st, Labor Day

Grain surveyor’s strike:

As mentioned previously, the grain surveyors union (URGARA) are going to go on strike on Monday 17th April at 00:00 hours for a 24 hour period. The strike affects all ports where grains are handled. Other products will not be affected.

Local seamen stopping work 17th April 06:00 hrs onwards:

The seamen’s union is going to stop work tomorrow as from 06:00 hours local time.

The union leadership is calling seamen to General Meetings to discuss strike measures related to the impact of Income Tax on salaries after hefty wage increases obtained thanks to inflation.

This attendance at Meetings affects: Pilot boats, harbor tugs, tankers, coastal barges, river pusher tugs.

It is not yet known when the Meetings will come to an end, and when the seaman will return to work.

Grains and Markets:

The Rosario Commercial Exchange (BCR) has now cut the forecast for the 2022/2023 soya bean harvest to 23,000,000 tons. They also cut their estimation (same time period) for maize to 32,000,000 tons. If these forecasts are true Argentina will be facing the worst yields in 15 years. The shortfall is caused by a severe drought and by very high temperatures at the end of the maturing season (late summer).

Taiwan (MFIG) has closed 65,000 tons of maize, from Argentina, on June dates.
