Grains and Markets:
Soya beans trading under the “bonus” exchange rate scheme are reported so far at 500,000 tons. Some short term Panamaxes reported to China.
Egypt is looking into the market for soya bean and sunflowerseed oil on May/June dates.
Colombia is wanting a Supramax of soyabean meal in June and Vietnam Supramax/Panamax in August.
Malaysia is looking for a Panamax of maize in June. Algeria for a Panamax in in May.
Canal Magdalena to be dredged:
The Argentine Government has called a tender for the dredging of the Canal Magdalena. This alternate River Plate Canal will be dredged from KM 143.074 (El Codillo) up to deep waters at 11.0 meters depth. The general heading will be southeasterly. See the map below for general guidance.
There has been a campaign for this canal to be dredged to facilitate access to the southern ports in Argentina (Mar del Plata, Necochea, Bahia Blanca).
