Strikes

National Holidays: Monday May 01st, Labor Day

Grains and Markets:

The third “bonus exchange rate” has so far enticed farmers to sell close to 1,000,000 tons of soya beans they have been holding in stock. Destinations so far un-reported.

South Korea (NOFI) has purchased a full Panamax of soya meal on August dates.

Egypt is in the market for a Panamax of soya beans on July dates.

Malaysia is in the for a Supramax of maize in June.

Strikes:

The truckers strike started yesterday 24th early am, including pickets, was lifted late evening of the same day after the Government decided to call a compulsory “truce” for 15 working days. Apparently an agreement has been reached and tariffs for road freight will be increased. This appears to be the main claim by the protestors.

Wheat Argentina 2023/2024 crop:

According to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange the forecast for the coming wheat harvest is optimistic (good weather conditions prevailing). Initial surveys indicate that the area to be dedicated to wheat will be 6,700,000 hectares. This is up from 2022/2023 when 6,100,000 hectares were sown. Sowing is expected to commence in the northern areas as from next week. It is early days to talk of a forecast.
