Grains and Markets:

Bangladesh is in the market for a Supramax of soya beans on October dates.

Japan and Colombia are in the markets for full loads of maize during October.

Maize “bonus” exchange rate season:

According to the latest report a total of 6,800,000 tons of maize has been traded in the Argentine market under the terms of the “bonus” exchange rate.

The scheme started on July 24th.

Some of the loading berths Upriver are reporting they cannot receive any more maize from shore side because all their storage is congested.

Import of soyabeans from Brazil in to Argentina:

Argentina has an installed crush capacity of 70,000,000 tons of soya beans per annum at Upriver facilities.

Due to the drought the soya bean harvest for 2022/2023 is 21,000,000 tons. Practically all of the 4,500,000 tons produced in Paraguay has been imported for crushing in Argentina. Additionally Brazil (specially from North Brazil ports) has been the source for 3,500,000 tons during January to July. All Brazilian imports have come on ocean freight.

Imports are expected to fall off during the second half of the year as the (meager) local harvest makes it’s way into the industry.

Prospects for the coming 2023/2024 crop are optimistic (weather permitting) with an increase in the area to be sown.
