Grains and Markets:

The soya bean “bonus” exchange rate continues. Up to this moment 1,570,000 tons have been traded locally since the system was implemented on November 28th. The market rumors are that China has already purchased three Panamaxes for close dates.

Paraguay has completed soya sowing and the area sown is estimated to be up 4.5 per cent compared to 2021.  2022 area is estimated at 3.45 million hectares. First projections are at 10,000,000 tons harvest. Always basis normal weather conditions.

Argentina offshore drilling:

After much worry, the Appeals Court overthrew a local (Mar del Plata) Judge’s ruling that froze prospecting at offshore areas. The Appeal’s Court ruling covers all prospecting in Argentine waters for the entire coast. The only area which is to receive “protection” is an area known as the “Blue Hole” where sea life breeds. At this moment no prospecting is being made in this area. Please the map below.

The local maritime and port community in Mar del Plata have been pushing for activity to be resumed since they consider it will bring work and prosperity. The port in Mar del Plata has mainly relied on fishing industry for it’s livelihood, but it does have small scale shipyards and industry that are able to provide significant support for supply vessels.
