June 14th – Grains and Markets

June 14th 2023

Grains and Markets

National Holidays: June 17th, 19th and 20th.

Tugboat Services in Argentina:

Tugboat crews have gone on an open-ended nationwide strike starting June 12th at 20:00 hours. This is a wage related conflict.

The only company that is expressly excepted, and whose crews will continue rendering services, is SVITZER.

Grains and Markets:

Algeria has dropped it’s tender for 35,000 tons of soya meal in July. Egypt is still looking to purchase 30,000 of soya oil and 10,000 tons of sunflower seed oil for July shipment. CCC is in the market for 77,000 tons of soya meal to Indonesia.

Japan is seeking a Panamax full of maize for August. Algeria is reported to have purchased 60,000 tons of maize on July dates with ECSA origin and Costa Rica a Handymax of maize for September.

Bunge–Viterra merger:

Today the merger of Bunge and Viterra was announced. Both companies have extensive trading and crushing activity, as well as logistical facilities, in Argentina. It remains to be seen if there are requirements from local authorities to make them divest themselves of some local assets so they do not become monopolies in certain areas. If the aggregate of both companies remains as it is now they will accumulate 60 per cent of sunflower seed oil exports.
