Grains and Markets:

Foreign estimates for the 2023-2024 harvest are 50,000,000 tons for soya beans and 52,000,000 tons for maize. The sowing for the coming season is now underway.

On a more positive and immediate note, the first trucks loaded with wheat are arriving at Upriver ports. The mv CHIOS PRIDE is reported at Punta Alvear, loading for Brazil and the mv BRIGHTEN TRADER at Bunge Ramallo for Puerto Rico.

Soyabean crushing in Argentina:

The crushing industry, mainly located at Upriver, is down to its lowest level of activity during this century. The shortage of soya beans due to the drought. It has been reported that during September only 1,900,000 tons were crushed. The stock of soya beans for crushing is now indicated to be 2,700,000 tons. In order to start the industry again they have to wait until the arrival of soya beans imported from Paraguay and Brazil. This means no new input until February 2024.

 

San Nicolás New Port South side:

Repairs to the South side of San Nicolas open berth are now mostly completed. The mv ARGENMAR MISTRAL berthed Tuesday November 07th. There are now two positions available in the port.

These berths are mainly used for the discharge of fertilizers.

Mv CYMONA PRIDE – Grounded at Km 104 Martin Garcia Canal:

The mv CYMONA PRIDE remains grounded at Km 104 of the Martin Garcia canal since Friday November 3rd, 11:30 hours.

She was proceeding in loaded condition with a cargo of 41,000 tons of iron ore from Brazil to Villa Constitución (Acindar) on about 9.90 meters draft.

At this time she is being assisted by three tugs to free from the grounding.

It is also rumored that a lightering operation may soon be undertaken.

CoastGuard traffic control have restricted navigation in the area to vessels not over 200 meters LOA, 7 meters draft and only during daylight.

Navigation to Upriver ports is proceeding along the Emilio Mitre Canal and is not otherwise affected.
