Draft River Parana

National Holidays: June 17th, 19th and 20th.

Grains and Markets:

Vietnam is reported inn the market for a full Supramax of soya bean meal on September dates. Egypt is reportedly in the market for 30,000 tons of soya bean oil and 10,000 tons of sunflower seed oil, June or July dates.

Egypt and Nigeria are looking for full (50,000 tons?) of maize in September. Japan is in the market for a Panamax in August.

Argentina-China maize:

China and Argentina are reaching an agreement on phytosanitary protocols to allow maize exports. Maize exports to China have been stopped for 11 years (since 2013). Once a final agreement is reached maize exports will begin. During 2022 Argentina exported a total of 34,500,000 tons of maize. The main destination was Vietnam with 5,300,000 tons.

Vicentin (soya bean meal):

Vicentin´s demise now appears to be inevitable. The delay in bankruptcy court proceedings and the drought that has been ongoing for the last three years appear to make the company’s agony come to an end.

The company had managed to survive by “renting out” it’s crushing plants to competitors to process their beans. The drought which has reduced the soya bean harvest makes these arrangements less viable. It still remains to be seen what happens to the crushing plants and loading berth in San Lorenzo.

Draft – River Parana:

Today the new (repaired) drafts were announced. The damage was caused by the grounding of mv ORION OCEAN on May 25th. She was reported to have had a blackout during her down river navigation.

The water depth available in the area is now 10.00 meters and the determining shallow pass reverts to “Las Hermanas B.D.” Km 325, where the reported depth is 9.80 meters.
