Grains and Markets:

The Government in Argentina is now spreading rumors of a new (fourth) “bonus” exchange rate for soya bean exports. One wonders where they think they will find the soya beans. As a measure of the soya bean shortage in the local market; Vicentin yesterday announced that they will be closing down their two crushing plants in San Lorenzo due to the lack of soya beans. More crushing plants are bound to follow as the shortage of soya beans, caused by the drought, begins to bite. Some estimates have it that before the end of 2023 up to 70 per cent of the crushing capacity at Upriver may shut down for this reason.

Iran eventually fixed their tender for a volume of 360,000 tons of soya bean meal with dates October through December. Origin yet unreported.

Indonesia is reported to be in the market for a Pamanax full of soya beans.

Buenos Aires Container Terminal 5 (BACTSSA):

As mentioned previously. BACTSSA, Buenos Aires container terminal 5 has today had it’s last day. The terminal was managed by Hutchison Whampoa of Hong Kong. No vessels have called at BACTSSA since April 2021. This now leaves Buenos Aires port with effectively two terminals. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 managed by DP World and Terminal 4 managed by APM Terminals (Maersk). Initial plans mentioned by Buenos Aires AGP who leases the terminals to the operators are that the area will be used as an extended storage area for containers prior to the entry in to the mentioned terminals.
