Toll charges on the River Parana:

For clarification purposes.

The Government of Argentina is planning to institute Toll Charges on vessels navigating the River Parana between the City of Santa Fé (Km 584) and Confluencia (Km 1,238). This area is the north section of the River Parana which is under exclusive jurisdiction of Argentina. Confluencia is where the River Parana and the River Paraguay join.

The charges are to be applied at a rate of USD 1.47 per NRT on international traffic and Pesos 1.47 on local cabotage traffic. On Thursday 17th a public hearing was held and, as can be expected all parties using the river expressed strong objections. Specially local and Paraguayan barges operators who will be affected directly. Very few, if any ocean going vessels transit this area.
