River Parana Dredging and buoying Tolls of Santa Fe:

A controversy is arising between Paraguay and Argentina regarding the collection of tolls for River Parana traffic north of Santa Fe.

The Paraguayan Government has resisted the collection of charges on traffic north of Santa Fe which is principally used by the Paraguay fluvial barging fleet. A party of Paraguayan Government officials met with Argentine authorities and claimed to come away with an agreement that tolls were not to be charged any longer. The Argentine Government claims that there had been an agreement that they would further study the collection of the tolls but that these would remain in place for the time being. As often happens with the governments presently running both countries a differing opinion have now escalated into a war of words that further confuses the situation.
