Grains and Markets:
Grains markets in Argentina were closed since Monday. The New Government suspended the grains export register “until further notice”. It appears that “further notice” be Wednesday 13th. Please see below.
Algeria’s ONAB purchased, via tender, 120,000 tons of Argentine maize, spot dates. They also fixed 35,000 tons of soya bean meal.
New Government, took office December 10th:
Argentina has re-applied to join OECD. This will be a long process.
This evening the new economic guidelines were announced.
What will affect foreign trade is the following:
- The new official exchange rate is Pesos 800.00 = USD 1.00 (Up from official rate last week of Pesos 365.00 = USD 1.00)
This will be a single exchange rate.
- Imports are to be freed. No longer will a SIRA (import authorization) be required. Exchange rate for imports will be Pesos 800.00 = USD 1.00 plus taxes. Heavy taxes.
We will revert with an estimate later this week, announcements were made late this afternoon.
