Grains and Markets:
Japan is looking for another Panamax of soya beans in April.
Tunisia wants a Supramax of soya meal in February and Thailand another for March.
Algeria will be buying another Panamax of maize (spot)on January dates.
Japan is also wanting a Panamax of maize in March.
New Government, took office December 10th:
The grains market in Argentina is beginning to move again.
The registry for exports was re-opened again today 14th and business is slowly returning to normal.
Estimates for wheat, which is now coming off the fields, are good, with a favorable exchange for farmers and reduced non tariff bureaucracy.
The downside is that the new Government will be increasing export tariffs for maize and wheat from 12 to 15 per cent. Soya will remain at 33 per cent.
It is bad news for farmers who have the tax deducted at source, but there is compensation that they will be getting more ArgPesos than before thanks to the devaluation.
Previous Xchange rate was PesosArg 365.00 per USD 1.00
Today it is PesosArg 800.00 per USD 1.00
For us this will mean slightly more volume in export markets.
San Nicolas Tugboats:
The harbor pilots at San Nicolas have “recommended” that tug boats be employed for berthing and unberthing maneuvers at New Port berth, Central Termica (AES) and the Elevator Berth.
This recommendation is for vessels:
-on a draft of 8.5 meters or above
-178.00 meters LOA or more
-unfavorable meteorological conditions
Please note this is only “recommended” and it is NOT compulsory.
